Gates games problem...
12:12 PM EDT 4/11/07
We have new machines with XP Pro, SCT w/disk protection and the old Gates games installed. We are encountering an issue with the "Living Books" games (Cat in The Hat, Grandma and Me, etc.) where they are constantly freezing.

We get a "Mohawk OS Manager" is not responding 'End Task' prompt after doing ctrl-alt-del and the resolution stays at 640x480. This requires logging out and back in again at minimum and sometimes a restart to resume normal operation. Since this happens many times a day it is becoming a huge issue.

I did force all of these games to run in NT compatibility mode in hopes that it would remedy the issue to no avail. Has anyone encountered this before? Any ideas?

Thanks

You might try changing the compatibility mode to either Win98 or Win95 - that's what these games were originally designed for. And maybe choose the 256 colors and 640x480 resolution boxes as well if you haven't done that.

Also double-check that Users have Modify permissions on C:\Program Files\Microsoft Kids\ and all it's sub folders.

If they do freeze, I don't know of a way to keep from having to log out and back on to get the resolution back - that was always the case with all of the Gates computer models.
