Fix Errors When Trying to Remove Restrictions or Profiles from a Gates PC   
If you are stuck and can't remove or install a Public Access Computer software component from a granted Gates Library Computer, this patch will allow you to do so.

Applicability

The information in this document applies to all granted standalone computers running the Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system.

Why Do This? 

You have received errors when uninstalling Public Access Computer Profiles, Public Access Computer Profile Restrictions or Public Access Computer System Restrictions, which are preventing you from either removing or reinstalling these components.
 
This procedure will allow the three components to be uninstalled through Add or Remove Programs, and then reinstalled using the Public Access Computer Installer.
 

Before You Begin

You will need your exec password and Centurion Guard key
 

Instructions

IMPORTANT: This procedure will completely remove then replace the Public Profiles. Any customizations you have made to the Profiles will be lost.
  1. Shut down the computer and turn the Centurion Guard key to Unlocked.
  2. Turn on the computer and log on as exec.
  3. Open Internet Explorer and download the PAC-Uninstall file.
  4. Choose to Save the file.
  5. In the Save as box, click on the Desktop button on the left and then on Save. The file is saved to your exec desktop.
  6. Close all open windows.
  7. Double-click on the PAC-Uninstall.zip icon on the desktop.
  8. Choose Extract All and when finished, open the folder that appears.
  9. Double-click on the PAC-Uninstall.exe icon in the folder.
  10. Click OK. Wait for the program to complete, it will take several minutes.
  11. Close all open windows.
  12. Go to Start>Settings>Add or Remove Programs.
  13. Highlight Public Access Computer Profile Restrictions. Click on Remove.
  14. Highlight Public Access Computer Security Restrictions. Click on Remove.
  15. Highlight Public Access Computer Profiles. Click on Remove.
  16. Close Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel.
  17. Go to Start>Programs>Public Access Computer Configuration Tool>Public Access Computer Installer.
  18. Place checks in all three boxes (the third box will become available when the second is checked).
  19. Click Install. It will take several minutes for the procedure to complete, do not use the mouse until the confirmation box appears.
  20. Click OK when prompted.
  21. Log off exec.
  22. Log on as all. Verify that the profile looks correct and you can only see the short, restricted Start Menu.
    If you were intending to make any changes to the system, begin those procedures now, otherwise shut down the computer and lock the Centurion Guard.
