Gates Library Computer is Frozen   
Follow these steps to diagnose and fix when the keyboard and mouse of your Gates Library Computer do not respond.

Applicability

The information in this document applies to computers running the Windows 2000 or XP operating system.

Instructions

Follow these steps to close the current programs or shut down the computer. If you're able to close the program causing the problem, in some cases you might be able to recover any files currently in use by the program. However, if you shut down the Gates Library Computer, changes to all files you haven't saved will be lost.

Note: To unfreeze a Magic School Bus program, skip steps 1-3 and proceed immediately to Step 4.

  1. Hold down the Alt key, and press the F4 key to close the program. Problem solved?
  2. No: Holding down the Crtl and Alt keys, press the Delete key. The Windows Security dialog box opens.
  3. Click Cancel. Problem solved?
  4. No: Holding down the Crtl and Alt keys, press the Delete key. The Shut Down Windows dialog box opens.
  5. Click Log Off. The Log Off Windows dialog box opens.
  6. Click Log Off.
  7. Log on to the computer. Problem solved?
  8. No: Holding down the Crtl and Alt keys, press the Delete key. The Windows Security dialog box opens.
  9. Click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box opens.
  10. Select Restart, and click OK. After the computer restarts, log on again. Problem solved?
  11. No: Holding down the Crtl and Alt keys, press the Delete key. The Windows Security dialog box opens.
  12. Click Shut Down. The Shut Down Windows dialog box opens.
  13. Select Shut down, and click OK. Wait 30 seconds before turning the computer back on again. Problem solved?
  14. No: Hold down the power button on the front of the computer until the computer turns off.
