converting OAI metadata to MARC21 format?
9:37 PM EDT 7/7/05
Hi Gang,

Not sure if this is the forum to post this one, sorry if it's not...

I'm wanting to incorporate the DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) title list into my catalogue, and I'm wondering if anyone knows about solutions to create MARC records from OAI (Open Archives Initiative) metadata (i.e. the format that DOAJ stores their titles lists in)

The Library of Congress has created a Java-based "MARCXML Toolkit" and several XSL stylesheets to do exactly these types of transformations - see their MARC 21 XML schema page:

http://www.loc.gov/standards/marcxml/

The "OAI MARC to MARCXML Stylesheet" should be exactly what you need.

This should get even easier when they eventually implement their promised web services to do the same sorts of transforms. Unfortunately those aren't available just yet...
