WELCOME: Open Source for Libraries Event
3:01 PM EDT 6/20/04
Thanks for joining our *one week only* discussion on Open Source for Libraries, guest moderated by Art Rhyno.
Art is a Systems Librarian at the Univ. of Windsor in Ontario. He's the author of a new book "Using Open Source Systems for Digital Libraries" and of the new WebJunction article A Public/Academic Open Source Project. We're excited to have him as our guest and resident expert this week. Welcome Art, and thank you for joining us!
As many of you know, OSS for libraries has been an active and sometimes controversial topic here on All Aboard. This week, we hope to gain a new & deeper understanding of the Open Source movement, and it's implications for libraries. We'll hear from some libraries who are making OSS work for them, and finish off the week with an installation workshop - something *anyone* can do to get started with OSS in their library.
An proposed agenda for the week, with a new topic posted each day:
MONDAY: An Introduction to Open Source for Libraries
TUESDAY: Case Studies: Who's doing what now?
WEDNESDAY: Should We or Shouldn't We?
THURSDAY: I'm Sold. Now What?
FRIDAY: Installation Workshop with Mozilla or OpenOffice.
If you have questions or comments about OSS in libraries - jump right in at any time. We want to hear from you!
Again, welcome to all! And thanks for joining the discussion on All Aboard.
