I ran across an article this morning concerning Linux and moving from Windows. This is full of good advice and tips on what to expect. It is written by a long time DOS/Windows user and takes a very balanced approach to the whole subject and is quite entertaining.

Along those lines this is an article about open source in Higher Ed.

Ok, I am "playing" with Red Hat 8.0 and it is driving me nuts, lol.

Any good books for the "beginner?"

DJSarge would probably know better than I, but I doubt that Red Hat is a good beginner version. Mandrake or SuSe or Debian are better to start with from what I have heard.

I'm not familiar with books that are out ther for Linux.

Wendell is correct Red Hat is not the best way to go for a beginner. My personal choice is Mandrake 9.1.

But I do understand going with Red Hat because there are more books dealing with Red Hat.

Most of your Red Hat questions can be answered on the Red Hat site.

What were the issues?

Another good way to learn about Linux is to join a local Linux user group and subscribe to their email lists. New users generally get good support with their questions. Many times answers to questions come back within minutes of being posted. Someone on the list has generally seen the problem before and are willing to share their experiences.

I've been a member of the Central Ohio Linux User's Group for many years and can recommend it (http://www.colug.net/).
