Libraries play a lead role in realizing that vision as vital centers for technology access and digital learning. Join us at ALA for a highly interactive workshop, which will explore:

  • Your vision of a connected community;
  • The IMLS framework for Building Digital Communities as a planning tool;
  • Specific goals and strategies that serve as benchmarks for digital inclusion;
  • Unique opportunities to extend the impact of library services through alignment between the public library, the city/county management and community-based organizations.

Discussions and activities will be facilitated by representatives from IMLS, ICMA (International City/County Management Association), TechSoup Global and WebJunction.

Advocacy and Fundraising for your Rural or Tribal Library

Rural and tribal libraries around the country are overcoming budget and funding challenges using resources and toolkits that provide step-by-step approaches to advocacy and fundraising efforts. Learn from taskforce members who created ALA’s Frontline Fundraising Toolkit; gain insight into successful legislative advocacy efforts that build local support, use online tools and create networks to reach rural legislators; and hear how libraries are using the newly updated Small But Powerful Guide to Winning Big Support for Your Rural Library Toolkit and the Guide for Building Support for your Tribal Library. Learn how to build a network of support in the community, how to collaborate with other libraries and how to market your library essential to the community.

Presenters include Jennifer Peterson, WebJunction Community Manager and John D. “Danny” Hales, Jr., WebJunction Advisory Committee Member.

Learning Round Table Training Showcase

The training showcase is a poster session type of program celebrating innovative continuing education, staff development and training initiatives in all types of libraries and organizations.
