Article: "$100 Laptop Gets Redesigned: The new machine will have dual touch screens--and cheaper hardware." By David Talbot, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 -- http://www.technologyreview.com/Infotech/20804/page1/

Of particular note is the emphasis on using this as an electronic book -- see especially the photograph on the second page.

I bought one of these late last year and it arrived early in 2008. I take it with me when I do "Library Gadgety" types of presentations around the country and it is always a hit. I've also noticed that at the CIL and IL folks that have them tend to gather...espcially at gaming nights. Other than that though I must confess that I don't use mine often at all.

I'm always behind in my reading, but I recently finished this article about the OLPC -- "Una Laptop por NiƱo" (free registration required) -- https://www.technologyreview.com/biztech/20572/.

Obviously, not directly related to libraries here in the U.S., but sure does give some good perspective!

I will be interested to see the second version of the OLPC and also products that may come as a result of Mary Lou Jepsen's efforts -- "Simplified Displays: Mary Lou Jepsen is developing technology originally created for the $100 laptop project" -- http://www.technologyreview.com/computing/21472/?a=f

I've been excited about the OLPC since the early design days. It's too bad there has been so much infighting. I'm still hopeful for the future, though...oh and thanks for posting the technology review article. That one really seems to match the guarded optimism I feel.
