Are any of your libraries currently circulating Playaway digital audio books? http://www.playawaydigital.com

If so, is battery replacement a hassle? Also, have you purchased a lot of extra ear buds or do you just plan to have patrons use their own?

I finally saw one of these -- someone had one at our KS library conference last week. They are tiny and packaged like a video, so ready for libraries to circulate. The person who had it said that he thinks it could be a "gateway" type technology. People would check out Playaways and get a taste for them... then they would probably become interested in buying an MP3 player and using Overdrive for more titles (we've got a statewide lib contract with Overdrive). I think he may be right....

I think my library is looking into getting some of these, so I'll try to report on any issues we have with them after we get them. Some librarians in Cochise County were already using them.
