Top 10 Things to Consider When Tagging Your Content

  • Choose a tag that describes what the resource is about.
  • Use everyday, informal language.
  • Avoid opinion tags (use the comments and ratings features instead) and personal intention tags (for example, "to read").
  • Use nouns; keep adjectives and adverbs to a minimum

                  Example:          silence NOT silent

  • Use singular form for abstract concepts, plural form for 'count nouns'

Example:          technology NOT technologies

                                          books NOT book

  • Use lowercase unless proper name

Example:          Library of Congress

Libraries

  • Use correct spelling.
  • Avoid numbers.
  • Avoid long tags (2 or 3 words maximum).
  • Use underscore (not space or dash) to separate compound terms.

Example:          collection_development NOT collection-development.
