Use these questions to help you think through your staff training needs. Staff /Skill Profile Who is the target audience? What are their skills and motivation level? What training has the staff requested? What specific, observable data indicates that training is needed? Agency Training Systems In the past, how has training been delivered? On a scale of 1 to 5, how successful would you say past training has been? What is your budget for training? Is the budget flexible? Are you raising money for training? What methods of training do you use? How do your staff members learn best? Does training of staff typically happen offsite? (i.e., at workshops, in classes, independently) What training has proven successful in the past (i.e., learners were able to apply what was taught immediately)? What training has NOT proven successful? Training Objectives What areas of inefficiency do you have that staff training could improve? What do you want to be included/covered in the training? If training were successful, what would be the outcome? What is the problem/need to be addressed through training? Training Logistics Do you have time allocated for organized technology training for your staff? By what date do you want the staff to be able to use software, systems, etc.? Do you have someone on staff to deliver training? Do you know of other libraries that could recommend a trainer or a class?
