CELLS SAMPLE SCENARIOS

Albert the Shelver

  • His PAD has a ELG requirement of two-CELLS credits.
  • Albert and his supervisor (or the supervisor alone) decide on Learning Opportunity, such as attending a Circ Basics class.
  • He and his supervisor select Sharing Activity, e.g. he will demonstrate the application of his skills by working at the circ desk for a set time. His supervisor determines the level of accomplishment and whether it meets the CELLS requirement.
  • The supervisor documents for the PAD that Albert has received one CELLS credit. Albert includes this information in his Employee Accomplishments section of his PAD.

The process is repeated for Albert’s second CELLS:

  • Albert attends an Ergonomics class.
  • Albert demonstrates what he learned at a staff meeting.  The supervisor determines the level of accomplishment and whether it meets the CELLS requirement.
  • The supervisor documents for the PAD that Albert has received one CELLS credit. Albert includes this information in his Employee Accomplishments section of his PAD.

Albert receives his PAD review at the end of the rating period and receives a Successful in the ELG category.  He provides input for and receives his development plan with future ELG and CELLS expectations.

Louise the Librarian

  • Her PAD has a ELG requirement of four-CELLS credits.
  • Louise and her supervisor decide on Learning Opportunity, e.g. view and complete a SPOT online tutorial on Intermediate Excel.
  • Louise and her supervisor select a Sharing Activity, e.g. deliver a show and tell session to appropriate staff as identified by the supervisor. The supervisor determines the level of accomplishment and whether it meets the CELLS requirement.
  • The supervisor documents for the PAD that Louise has received one CELLS credit. Louise includes this information in her Employee Accomplishments section of his PAD.
  • Louise researches a topic via professional reading/viewing for her Learning Opportunity.
  • She creates and delivers a training session to receive 3 CELLS.
  • Her evaluations from the session are uniformly negative.
  • Her supervisor determines Louise has not met the appropriate level of accomplishment. He/She determines a possible corrective or replacement activity, which Louise must complete to meet the CELLS requirement for her PAD.
  • If Louise satisfactorily completes her Sharing Activity she receives credit in her PAD; if not, she does not.  Depending upon her other activities, Louise may or may not receive a Successful in her ELG part of her PAD.

Edwin the EPA

  • His PAD has a ELG requirement of two-CELLS credits.
  • Edwin attends a CAL workshop on story times.
  • He creates and delivers a workshop session to the DPL Sr. Librarians

 bi-monthly training meeting.

  • His supervisor determines that his level of accomplishment meets his CELLS requirement, and,
  • The impact is such that new techniques are implemented in numerous locations.
  • Edwin received 3 CELLS, 1 more than needed and in combination with his other CELLS work he may receive an Exceptional rating on his PAD’s ELG category due to the system-wide impact, based on his supervisor’s assessment of his overall performance in this category.                                                                                                         Sss2/09
