Integrated Library Systems: Open Source and Customization
Thank you to all who joined us on December 10th for a discussion of Integrated Library Systems (ILSs) and the trend toward customizability through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) with library systems with expert Marshall Breeding and representatives from leading vendors in the field. They discussed new features and capabilities available in the most modern library software, and what it really means for these tools to be "customizable." This event coincided with the publication of Marshall Breeding's December 2009 issue of Library Technology Reports and is presented in collaboration with ALA TechSource.
Guide to Integrated Library System Resources
It isn't a stretch to say that an ILS (or LCS) may be the most important software a library is likely to install. With all the choices out there between the different commercial and open source products as well as the widely different needs of the various types and sizes of libraries, this can quickly become a complex and stressful issue. And of course, once you choose one, the fun is just beginning!
