Library Law: Employment of Underage Workers   
If your library hires high school students as employees—whether during the summer or during the school year—the library will have to comply with the child labor provisions of the Illinois Child Labor Law and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). When both the Illinois and the federal child labor laws cover a child's employment, the stricter of the two laws will prevail. This article shows some of the similarities and some of the differences between the two laws. This article originally appeared in the North Suburban Library System Newsletter.
