| Library Law: Employment of Underage Workers |
If your library hires high school students as employees—whether during the summer or during the school year—the library will have to comply with the child labor provisions of the Illinois Child Labor Law and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). When both the Illinois and the federal child labor laws cover a child's employment, the stricter of the two laws will prevail.
