C:/ drive compression
2:56 PM EDT 6/12/07
One of our computers with a small hard drive did not have enough remaining hard drive space for updates (virus & windows) to be completed. The staff member that is responsible for completing the updates decided to compress the C:/ drive. Now, when we try to boot up the computer, it gets all the way to the windows start up screen, but then it flashes a black screen with a black and white fuzzy line at the bottom and then, briefly flashes a blue screen and then back to the DOS start up prompt and keeps going through the cycle over and over again. We know we need to replace several of our patron computers (including this one), but is there something that we can do to get this computer up and running in the mean time?
Thanks, Cara

as a reply to Cara Leverett.
Certainly there are things you can do, but what that is will depend on the degree of the actual problem and what you have access to.
Hopefully you have a copy of the Windows CD that you can boot to. If yo do that you could try recovering the installation, reinstalling Windows right over the top of the current installation, or reformatting the hard drive and installing Windows clean.
I would recommend that last option if there isn't data that you really want to recover. It will mean that you also have to reinstall any applications, but it also means that you can just install those applications you really need, and this might well help with the drive space issues.
If you are completely in the dark about how you would go about doing these, just reply back with some more details about the computer, like what version of Windows, how large the drive is, etc. (and even the make/model of the computer).
