Branches of the Military   
This web page provides an overview of the branches of the U.S. military as well as links to resources and information about each branch.

Overview

The current structure of the military was established by the National Security Act of 1947. There are five military branches: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and the Coast Guard. The Army, Navy Air Force and Marines are part of the Department of Defense. The Coast Guard is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
