The CIPA Effect on Funding

With the recent CIPA decision, I thought it timely to alert librarians of a good online resource on how this decision affects funding and technology. The following discusses federal grants (LSTA), E-rate, or federal funds distributed via a consortium, network, or system. You will need to search for "CIPA FAQ" at

The site was developed by Bob Bocher of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Public Library Development, with some assistance from statewide library E-rate coordinators from all over the U.S. It has been adapted to reflect the Massachusetts library environment.
For future reference, a library seeking a grant with specific technology requirements, might consider including the purchase of computer equipment, or costs of establishing a network, and etc. as a CASH COST ? SHARE item, thereby retaining library control over the use of those items, if possible.
