Building An Online Learning Community In Your State

Originally presented June 10, 2010.

MERLIN (Maryland's Essential Resource for Library Information Networks) a community created with Joomla (an open source content management system), is Maryland's online learning community for Maryland library staff. Come and hear how a group of Maryland library staff known as Merlin Community Builders created a collaborative, online space where Maryland library staff can participate and contribute ideas, information, and content. Hear about the triumphs and challenges in creating this learning resource. Maryland library staff use Merlin to:

  • Use the calendars to learn about training and other statewide events.
  • Launch online training.
  • Engage in discussions and share resources on various library-related topcs.
  • Create and contribute to blogs and wikis for statewide committees and projects.
  • Network with kindred library folk statewide.

This event is brought to you in collaboration with the ALA Learning Roundtable and hosted by the ALA Emerging Leader group N. Presenters include Maurice Coleman, Technical Trainer, Harford County Public Library and Nini Beegan, Maryland Online Learning Coordinator, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Library and Development Services.

The MERLIN project is made possible with funding by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, through the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Library and Development Services in partnership with the State Library Resource Center, and Maryland's Regional and Public Libraries.
