Fundraising and philanthropy during an economic crisis
The Foundation Center is a nonprofit library and training center that educates the public about private foundations and their grants. In response to the economic downturn, we've pulled together resources to inform nonprofits about trends in giving.

The Foundation Center's Focus on the Economic Crisis resource page brings together news feeds from the world of philanthropy that discuss the impact of the economic crisis on the philanthropic sector. We also publish research advisories, the most recent one by Steven Lawrence, the Foundation Center's Senior Director of Research, is entitled Do Foundation Giving Priorities Change in Times of Economic Distress?

To hear leaders in the nonprofit and private philanthropy sector weigh in on the economic crisis, visit our Commentary page to download podcasts and read interview transcripts.

In addition, the Catalog of Nonprofit Literature is our collection of nonprofit books and articles related to fundraising and grantseeking. We've created a feed focused on recent articles on the economy here.

If you want to learn more about fundraising planning and grantseeking, you can attend a class, participate in current and archived webinars, or take an online tutorial.

The Foundation Center tracks giving trends. We've recently created interactive map shots that show where grant dollars are concentrated. You can also locate libraries that provide access to Foundation Center materials on our Local Funding Information Centers map.
