Aerospace activity is a cooperative between public and private entities and most countries (the United States included) have their space program under the control of a government agency. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is the U.S. agency that oversees the nation's research, design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of air and space activities.
Key Resources
- NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS) - Provides access to NASA's current and historical aerospace research and engineering results. Some reports available in full-text.
- NASA Scientific and Technical Information (STI) - Broader information source than NTRS and provides access to a variety of NASA material (including a link directly to NTRS).
- Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) - Provides centralized access to all of Department of Defense's scientific and technical information on DoD's multidisciplinary research, development, engineering, and studies programs. Some reports available in full text.
- National Technical Information Service (NTIS)- NTIS is an agency responsible for collecting for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related since the 1950s. The NTIS database provides citation information for over 3 million publications from 1964 to the present.
- Science.gov - Search engine providing single search access to over 50 million pages of government science and reseach results. Many results are available in full text. Site is maintained by the Science.gov Alliance, a group of STI government agencies.
- National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) - Research - "The National Center for Atmospheric Research's (NCAR) activities as an integrator, innovator, and community builder are contributing to the development of a predictive Earth system science that can help sustain Earth's habitability, improve environmental quality, safeguard human health, reduce the impacts of natural disasters, and increase economic productivity." NCAR's research website links to areas of research - climate, meteorology/weather, societal impacts, pollution & air chemistry, whole earth system, sun & space weather.
