InfoSpeak Interviews Library Leaders

InfoSpeak is a podcast audio serial program conceived by Michael Wood and Deanna Sukkar in 2005. Spanish Speakers Speak Up: Findings from Spanish Language Outreach Focus Groups

WebJunction recently concluded focus groups in three libraries that participated in Round 2 of the Spanish Language Outreach program. The focus groups were held in New York, Arizona, and Arkansas; and participants were Spanish-speaking library patrons. They shared a number of ideas and concerns about using their local library. You can read the report and see what your library is doing that matches their expectations.

Having trouble untying "the Ribbon"? A set of 7 modules uses Flash and audio to provide animated, interactive lesson introductions, activities, and simulations to introduce the new Office interface — aka the Ribbon — and new features available in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access. The course also helps users locate commands they know and love from previous versions of the applications. For February this course is discounted at $10—less than half price. If you're in a WebJunction community partner state, the course is free, thanks to your state's subscription.

WebJunction Vermont and Equal Access understand the value of training librarians to address community health and use technology to expand their services. Equal Access provides professional development programs for librarians, and library staff share their work in the Showcase. Vermont offers public librarians technology credits to attend Consumer Health Information Resources for Librarians; and they created Vermont’s 23 Things to engage local librarians in emerging technologies.

Pat Williams, project coordinator for the Oklahoma Siga Adelante Program, will speak on February 12 about the program the Oklahoma Department of Libraries developed in partnership with WebJunction. Participants in the program designed workshops in Spanish on various topics and created manuals on family literacy, health, and citizenship from which other libraries could develop their own workshops. They will also discuss the new manuals they are creating on employment, finances, and community engagement. Registration for this webinar is optional. To register and receive an email reminder, visit the WebJunction Calendar of Events.

On February 13, Pat Wagner, well-known educator, trainer, writer and consultant for the library community, will discuss what challenges library leaders face and how leadership training for all library personnel might help. She will discuss why she has partnered with LE@D, Lifelong Education @ Desktop, whose classes are available through WebJunction, as the primary online source for her library programs; and will provide a sneak peek at the content of courses she's writing for LE@D. Registration for this webinar is optional. To register and receive an email reminder, visit the WebJunction Calendar of Events
