Young Adult Advisory Board & Book Discussion Club
7:15 PM EDT 10/21/09
Hello Library Friends. I am looking for advice as I put together a
"young adult advisory board and book discussion club" for ...yes, YA's.
I am hoping to create monthly meetings where YA's review and recommend their fave books,
vote for best book of 2009, as well as assist me with choosing books to purchase for the collection & recommend other
YA programs and materials. An ongoing club......

Has anyone else run a program like this?
Any shorter names/titles you can help me brainstorm for this board/club?

sugggestions and thoughts are appreciated

Hi there! At our library we call it TAB--Teen Advisory Board. We meet once a month with a group of teens from 13-18 years old. We get thier input on different possiblities for teen programs and on books they would like added to our collection. Recently we held a large book sale with discards from the previous year, donations that we are unable to use, baked goods and a few purchased items for stocking stuffers that the kids could afford to buy as gifts. The TAB organized the sale, Provided most of the labor force and are now deciding which books to add to the collection. The main goal of this sale was to 'complete the collections' of series books for YAs. The book discussion is a less formal part of the meeting, but when you get book lovers together its going to come up, whether it is on the agenda or not! I could see the advantages of making that a formal part of each meeting. Working with a good group of interested teen readers is alot of fun. Have a great time.
