Hello 'lmmiller'! Somehow this post slipped by me. I apologize.

This is a really good set of ideas for kids' programming, some of them quite visionary. I recommend this to everyone who's working with children or YAs. I'd love to see folks here in our forums add to that list.

Have you tried any similar programs in your library? Tell us about it. emoticon

really good site with some good ideas...I run the afterschool program here at my library and I am always looking for ideas to make things more fun and educational...some of the ideas I got off of this site are dancing or exercising and maybe started my program 1 hour earlier for homework help...thanks for sharing....

I ran a Wednesday afternoon paper folding group all last year that was hugely successful- we had to add it to our branch too. After some summer experimentation, we're planning on having regular Dance Dance Revolution (an active video game) sessions.

I just ran across this website that has information on Afterschool Nutrition Programs (http://www.frac.org/Out_Of_School_Time/Afterschool/index.html). It says, "The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provide funding to private nonprofit and public organizations (including schools) to serve nutritious snacks and meals in afterschool programs."

There is even an example from a library under the Model Afterschool Programs. Has anyone done this? It seems like a great opportunity to provide free nutrious snacks during library programming.
