Early learning creates a foundation for lifelong learning; no other time in human development presents such a rich opportunity to build that foundation. Libraries offer a chance to create a supportive environment and fun programs that support early learning and literacy. Instilling a love and habit of reading in our youngest patrons goes beyond pure entertainment -- it also drives language and analytical skills, decision making, and the shaping of great stewards of our communities. Yet, we can't forget the fun: stories and fantasy are learning! Games do build knowledge! Learn about successes in early literacy programs, and feel free to share your relevant program experiences, successes, and articles here.

Internet and Children
Our children are growing up in a global information society. Librarians - in partnership with parents, educators, law enforcement officials, elected officials, online corporations, public interest groups, and the media - must learn, and then teach our children the critical viewing and thinking skills that will help them decipher and evaluate this new world of information online. Working together, we can help each other make sure the Internet is a positive experience for our kids
