Advancing beyond the basics of podcasting, this presentation explores one school's successful student-created podcast experience, lessons learned, and future plans. Issues, principles, and rationale in podcast planning and creation from a multi-faceted perspective will also be shared.
Speakers: Jan Cox (Indiana University School of Dentistry Library), Kate Baker (Sycamore School)
Presider: Miriam Murphy (Ruth Lilly Lawn Library, IU School of Law - Indianapolis)

Cataloging of Children and Adult Videos in Public Libraries
Wednesday, November 19, 1:30 - 2:20 pm
As technology keeps changing, catalogers find themselves with the problem of how to sort and classify new media. The demand for popular AV formats has left technical services departments striving to keep up with rapidly changing cataloging standards. This program is a roundtable discussion, so come and share your stories and experiences.
Speaker: Rita Allen (Vigo County Public Library)
Presider: Valentine Muyumba (Indiana State University)

Pass the Popcorn
Wednesday, November 19, 2:30 - 3:20 pm
Do you have that movie that has that guy who made that other movie that came out last fall?" "I saw a movie last night on TV, but I don't know what it's about or who was in it . . . Can you tell me what it was?" "I really love obscure Japanese New Wave films of the 1970s . . . What else can you suggest?" These are the kind of questions public librarians are now facing as more and more of our collections move to video formats. Movies now have a permanent place in the library, and we need to know how to help our patrons find them. This session is designed to help librarians handle those dreaded film advisory questions and learn to deal with even the most hardcore moviephile.
Speaker: Alex Sarkissian (Morrison-Reeves Library)
Presider: Sherri Bonham (Hamilton East Public Library)

Casting a Wider Net: Screencasting for Reference and Instruction
Wednesday, November 19, 2:30 - 3:20 pm
The Distance Education Librarian at Indiana University, Bloomington made a three-minute screencast in an effort to quickly teach distance students at IUB the requirements for gaining remote access to library online materials and services. This program will highlight the ease of use of CamStudio software and discuss the procedures followed for creating this screencast. Other software and methods of creating instructional podcasts and screencasts will also be discussed.
Speakers: Anne J. Haynes and Jennifer Laherty (Indiana University, Herman B. Wells Library)
Presider: Renee Reed (Irwin Library, Butler University)

Spice Up Your Music Collection
Thursday, November 20, 9:00 - 9:50 am
Matthew Socey, host of the Blues House Party on WFYI Radio and a NUVO music and film contributor, has a passion for music, especially live performances. He is also an avid library user. Matthew will showcase a variety of musical genres with excertps from CDs. He will also duscuss music advisory and encourage librarians to seek out local and independent artists' recordings. In addition, he will praise librarians for collecting some films that the video stores just do not carry, such as classic films.
Speaker: Matthew Socey (WFYI Teleplex)
Presider: Sherri Bonham (Hamilton East Public Library)

Virtually Videos: Cataloging Streaming Video RecordingsThursday, November 20, 10:30 - 11:20 am
You can see them, but you can't hold them! How would you provide catalog access to streaming videos so that you can pinpoint their availability? We'll look at MARC fields, description and subject access -- the the usual cataloging considerations. And just what are you going to do about a call number? Come with your questions.
Speaker: LaDonna Riddle Weber (Library Technical Services Contractor)

Are Books Talking in Your Library?
Thursday, November 20, 3:00 - 3:50 pm
This program will explore the opportunity for the Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library and Indiana's public libraries to provide outstanding customer service to special populations by partnering in a number of areas. Public libraries may borrow from our library's extensive collection of large print titles to meet the needs of baby boomer who find it increasingly difficult to read standard print. The Talking Book and Braille Library would encourage talking book patrons and their families to access the computers in their public libraries to download audiobooks that are not in our collections. These and other creative partnering ideas will be presented and discussed.
Speaker: Carol Rose (Indiana State Library)

Also, don't forget to drop by the Media Resources Division booth in the Exhibit Hall.
