Hi J,

Welcome! I know that the City of Irving Texas has a very good Language Pay Policy. If you pass a spoken language test (right now mostly Spanish and and a few Asian languages), you can get paid up to $150 a month for your skills.

I just sent an email to a librarian there to ask his permision to share their policy document with you.

LA County also offers compensation for bi-lingual employees.

I know that Tulsa City-County Library System is implementing a Compensation Study. I will email a contact there to see if she has any info she can share.

Laura Staley

I am currently gathering information on whether or not any libraries around the country (or elsewhere) institute a pay differential of any sort for Spanish-speaking staff.

If you have any information or examples it would be greatly appreciated. For example: What are the criteria for receiving such an incentive? How much is the incentive?

Thank you very much,
J Gerard
