It looks like this program is coming to major cities this summer.

[url http://www.hispanichealth.org/vida/]¡Vive tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving![/url] is the nations premier annual Hispanic family physical activity and healthy lifestyle event. ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! is for people of all ages and all sizes.

The program is sponsored by the [url http://www.hispanichealth.org/]National Alliance for Hispanic Health[/url] and the [url http://www.healthyamericas.org/]Health Foundation for the Americas[/url].

This sounds like a great idea. Our community is very family oriented and celebrating children would go over well in our community.

We are just beginning to work with the Spanish community and I think your event is a great idea. Hopefully, we will be able to do something along the same lines in the future.

Thanks for posting this information about the El día de los niños/El día de los libros celebration in the Denver Area.

Are there other libraries out there planning similiar events?

The Colorado Folk Arts Council is teaming up with other local organizations to host a multi-cultural event to celebrate Dia Del Lost Ninos, an annual event celebrated at the end of April in the Denver Metro area to honor children. This celebration will be the metro areas largest multi-cultural, multi-venue, multi-collaborative Day of the Child event in the state, on April 27th and April 28th. The Colorado Folk Arts Council will team up with The Rocky Mountain Storytellers Conference, the City of Aurora, and seven youth performance groups from five different cities in the metro area to celebrate the national holiday Dia de los Ninos/ Dia de los Libros. This holiday is celebrated at the end of April every year in honor of children. It is a day to promote the health, welfare, literacy and education of children worldwide.

This kind of event offers a great opportunity for area libraries to have a presence in the Spanish-speaking community. And perhaps even a way to find bilingual staff. I am hoping that some of the Denver metro area libraries step up and work with the organizers to be included in the festivities in some way!
