Pam-

My experience with these type of printers (HP and non-HP) is that they do work well. However, it is always a printer properties option.

So you would have to choose a default (either at the computer or print server level, depending on your setup), and then to change that, the user has to bring up the print dialogue box and go in to the printer properties. Either way, there will be a patron with issues about it.

But if you defaulted it to double-sided, and pointed out it was saving the patron money, I would think most would be happy with that.

Also, if you default it to double sided, you can still print multiple 1 page copies - they would come out correctly.

We had a comment from a patron recently asking if we could get a printer that would do double-sided printing as a way to save paper (and money, since they are charged by the page).

In looking at HP printers, I found a few that do automatice double-sided printing but wondered if anyone had any experience with these? Is it something patrons can choose (which I think would be difficult, since few rarely look at the choices in the print window)? What if someone just wanted several copies of a single page document - is it going to give them that option? I'm just not convinced the advantages for a few patrons would out-weigh the problems that could come up! But I'd like to hear from others...
