See attached invitation and flyer to the upcoming ARSL Annual Conference and also this note as posted on the ARSL Listserv from Donald Reynolds:

Dear Friends and Gentle People -

As we are making the final tweaks (not to be confused with twitters) to our 2009 Annual Conference program, we wanted you to have some preliminary information about costs and confirmed speakers.

Keeping Your Head While Serving the Community is our theme.

Included in the Registration Fee (Early Bird - $225 for Members; $270 for Non-Members. After August 1st - $250 for Members; $300 for Non-Members) are a Thursday night Luau at Ripley's Aquarium, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 4 breaks to meet and visit with librarians from around the country.

The hotel rate is just $70.00 a night (this is a government rate - there will be no tax). The hotel will also honor this rate for conference attendees 3 days before and 3 days after the conference dates for those who'd like to plan some personal holiday time.

Be on the look-out for full Registration and Program Information early next week.

SallyAnn wrote,  "I am the Director of the smallest library in Cumberland County, the busiest system in Pennsylvania. Attending the ARSL Conference in 2007 made me feel that I was the Emir in the Taj Mahal compared to many of the libraries and Librarians I met. Still we are rural, cramped, and misunderstood by many in our area. The economic downturn is causing people to turn to us but they expect a lot for their buck and I appreciated the new ideas for working on a shoestring in cramped quarters with inadequate (in numbers only) staff."

Said another attendee,  "Great humor and comradery.  Not one second of boredom; enjoyed all the conversations in between.  What a fantastic, enthusiastic and wonderful group of people.  I am rejuvenated!"

Our Planning Committee and ARSL Board are all hoping that you will be able to join us for what promises to be another rejuvenating conference for rural and small library folks.

Tennessee is a Great Idea - especially for a September conference in Gatlinburg ! !

And, again, please contact me if you have any questions  -  Don
