The Association for Rural and Small Libraries is now accepting proposals for conference programs to be presented at the annual conference,

September 11-13, 2009, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

There will also be a Thursday preconference (Sept 10th) about designing and building a merchandised (book store) library along with a fuller discussion of continuing to use the Dewey Decimal System in small libraries - or not.

Programs must keep with the theme and fit within at least one of the six LSTA goals:

1.       Expand services for learning and access to information and educational resources in a variety of formats, in all types of libraries, for individuals of all ages;

2.       Develop library services that provide all users access to information through local, state, regional, national, and international electronic networks;

3.       Provide electronic and other linkages between and among all types of libraries;

4.       Develop public and private partnerships with other agencies and community-based organizations;

5.       Target library services to individuals of diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, to individuals with disabilities, and to individuals with limited functional literacy or information skills; and

6.       Target library and information services to persons having difficulty using a library and to underserved urban and rural communities, including children from families with incomes below the poverty line.

All proposals will be reviewed by the ARSL Conference Program Committee.  Proposals that are accepted will be expected to present a 60-miunute program twice during the conference.  Winning proposals will receive registration (at member rate so will need to join ARSL if you have not already) and hotel accommodations for up to three nights for one person.  There might be additional funds available for travel in special need cases (see “Transporation” below).

The deadline for submitting the attached form is Monday, April 13, 2009.
