Program FAQs
What is the program?
The Montana State Library has purchased 160 seats from the WebJunction catalog of self-paced online courses. Two individual seats will be made available to each public library, to be utilized at the Library Director’s discretion. Montana Library Learning on WebJunction is intended to give librarians an opportunity to try self-paced online learning in order to improve their knowledge and skills .
Program timetable
September 1, 2009 - Program opens and courses are available for enrollment.
March 31, 2010 - Program ends. All courses must be completed.
How does the program work?
When the program opens, public library directors will receive the statewide coupon code which entitles each library to utilize 2 individual WebJunction course seats. The director can use the seats her/himself or distribute them to staff members. Participants can choose courses from a MSL list of pre-approved courses in all continuing education competency categories or they may select courses from the 600+ item WJ course catalog that are not on the pre-approved MSL list. If CE credit is desired for courses that are not on the pre-approved list, please contact Sue Jackson sujackson@mt.gov for CE prior approval.
Who can take the courses?
Public library directors, staff, or trustees are eligible to take Montana WebJunction courses at the discretion of the Library Director. Each library can utilize two individual course seats.
How do I take the courses?
You must be a registered member of WebJunction (WJ) to enroll in your selected course(s). Creating an account & profile is easy and does not require you to share personally identifiable information. Once you are registered on WJ you can find the enrollment page for your course on the Montana Pre-Approved WebJunction Course Menu which is linked on the program website http://www.webjunction.org/854/ or by searching the Webjunction course catalog. You will use your coupon code to enroll online. You can start, pause, and resume the course at your convenience. Your course(s) are accessible on your profile page under “My Courses”. When you have completed a course you will receive a certificate of completion. To learn how to use all the services on WebJunction please review the WJ user guide http://www.webjunction.org/membercenter/userguide and if you have further questions or comments please use the discussion board for the Montana Librarians WJ Group (see information about the group below) or contact Lauren McMullen lmcmullen@mtlib.org .
CE Credit
CE credit is available for participants in the Montana Certification Program. When you complete a WebJunction course you will receive a certificate of completion indicating the credit(s) earned. The certificate qualifies for Montana Certification Program credit – keep it together with your other CE forms.
Program Evaluation
Participants are asked to fill out an evaluation for each course taken. The online evaluation is available under the documents tab on the Montana Librarians Group site or at: http://msl.mt.gov/webjunction . This feedback will help us evaluate the effectiveness of the WebJunction course program as we continue to develop the MSL’s online learning and continuing education program.
Tips for participants:
Course materials will remain available to you under “My Courses” for reference and review for one year from the time of enrollment.
If you are taking more than one course, it’s best to take them one at a time.
Try to complete your courses promptly, even though the deadline may be a long time away. The courses are short; even though you have a few months to complete them you may lose focus if you spread it out over too long a time.
Please join the Montana Librarians WJ Group that has been created for this program. On the group page you will find information about the program, documents relating to the program, and a discussion board used for program announcements, questions and general discussion about the courses and content with your colleagues. Anyone can view the group discussions and resources, but if you want to contribute questions and comments you must be a member of the group. It’s easy – under Group Members, just click the link to Join the Group.
