At the school my kids attend, reports cards are withheld until overdue library books are returned (also until unpaid lunch fees are paid). Is this an option for you?

Does anyone have any creative ideas on how to get overdues back before the end of the year? I have put notices on lockers and handed out to classroom teachers. I still have 600+ materials to get back before the end of the year. I am getting frustrated. When I talk with students I ususally get the answer, I will bring it back tomorrow. Tomorrow, however, never comes.

We routinely keep two windows open. That way we can deal with checking out patrons without disrupting whatever else we had been working on. We don't have a problem with getting logged out of Destiny when we do this.

I would like to be able to input the next barcode number I want the system to use and then have the system automatically create the next available numbers from there.

We would like to have a way to globally create a series tag for the entire district. As an example: the Junie B. Jones books are not listed by series. We'd like them to be. So we want to add Junie B. Jones in the series tag - but to do so on every single book is pretty time-consuming. Is there a way to add it to all of the books at one time?

Log-in issues

Many of our applications are web-based. If we are working in one Destiny but realize we need to open a new browser window for our Accelerated Reader program we are finding that it sometimes opens in the same window, which logs us out of Destiny. Although we're learning some work-arounds, we are having some frustrations with it. Does anyone have any neat tricks or tips for using tabs or windows where Destiny doesn't logout the user?

We've also thought it would be nice to be able to open a new tab and log in as the circ station to check a book out, rather than having to close out of the cataloging we might be doing.

Any ideas?

I would be interested in knowing how many users are using Destiny Quest, the student-focused search interface, and what their experience with it has been.

I'm unable to attend the MEMO Conference this year, but the Users Group will be a great opportunity for users to connect with the company.

I hope that Follett will take the opportunity to hear suggestions for enhancements for future updates. I'm going to set up an enhancements suggestion area in this WebJunction group that may also serve as a suggestion area for users.

Jane - thanks for providing some details on this Users Group meeting.

I would like see the use of MN Webjunction for creating an electronic community promoted at this event, and to also get some input for a scheduled January professional development workshop related to Destiny. That workshop will be provided by the North Star Library Consortium, but will be open to all Destiny users (and wannabe users) who are interested.

Ruth Solie and I (both MN multitype directors) provide learning opportunities for members of the North Star Library Consortium (which uses Destiny software). Many of the events we offer are also available to others in the state and are often of keen interest to Destiny users. Please use this threaded discussion to share what you would like to learn. The date of our next event is January 26, 2009. We may have people bring laptops and actually do some hands-on, "under the hood" work, so that when they go back to work, they have already completed some cool things. More details will be shared very soon, but your input here is valuable, so let us know what you need. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

What "bells and whistles" within Library Manager would you like to learn? eg. how to jazz up your home page, create fabulous visual searches, create student reviews?

How about cataloging, any needs there?

Do you have any interest in gaming or new gadgets?

More generally, are there any "big picture" issues you feel hopelessly behind on?
