Important change necessary to your WiFi equipment
12:29 PM EST 1/22/09
It has come to my attention that there is a glaring error in my instructions regarding updating your computer. Basically, I left out a very important step that will actually prevent any changes you make to the public account from being kept past a reboot. After reviewing my instructions and how most of the laptops & Q1s have been setup I’ve decided on the best way to solve this problem. Please perform the following steps at your earliest convenience:
1. Log in to the staff account 2. Run Steady State 3. To the left of the Steady State window check to see if the Public profile is listed as “Locked” or “Unlocked”. If it says “Unlocked” you need not proceed further. 4. If the Public profile is locked, click on the area that says “Locked” to get to the next screen. 5. Uncheck the box labeled “Lock profile to prevent the user from making permanent changes”. (It is OK to do this since it’s pretty much the same thing as Hard Disk Protection.) 6. Click OK. The main window should now report that the Public profile is “Unlocked”. 7. Exit Steady State 8. Shutdown/reboot the computer as needed.
Once you have done this, the “updating your computer” instructions will again be correct.
Thanks for your understanding.
