End of October Update
8:53 AM EDT 10/30/08
A few of you e-mailed me yesterday to ask when the next batch of computers are going out. Here's an update for everyone.
The past two weeks included NLA/NEMA and Internet Librarian which kept me out of the office. Mon-Wed of this week was dedicated to just getting caught back up with e-mail, especially relating to the Nebraska Learns 2.0 program. So, now I can start focusing on getting the rest of these computers set up.
One of the things that made the first batch take so long to set up was the need for the security updates to be installed. When doing this for nine computers at a time over DSL-based WiFi it took pretty much all day. Today, the plan is to try to streamline this process through several methods including only three at a time so I can wire them to the DSL line and run most of the updates off of a CD that contains pre-downloaded updates. This process should allow me to get more done much faster. The first one is being worked on as I write this.
Unless you hear otherwise from me, I'll be sending out a few more tomorrow and many more next week. Of course, I'll post the names of which libraries' equipment as shipped on a case-by-case basis.
Thank you all for your patience with this process.
