Do you continue your programming full force through the summer? If so, what success have you had?

Thought I would answer my own question!

We used to do our programming full-force from mid-September until Mid-June and then have very little happen in the summer other than Summer Reading clubs. This is changing for us -- especially this year with more and more patrons taking "staycations".

Last year we integrated programming with our Adult Summer Reading club and had a Monday night series of programs -- and the attendance really surprised us. We would have anywhere from 40-80 people at each program on average. We alternated between films, music and lectures. This year we have done the same thing with similar success and added programming on other nights too.

We now slow down a bit in the summer, but we do not come to a halt like we used to.

Our biggest success this summer (so far) was a performance of traditional Irish Music by a husband and wife visiting from Ireland and also a wonderful program by audiobook narrator C.J. Critt. We had over 100 at each of these programs.

We actually do more programming in the summer months with our Adult Summer Reading Program. On average we do about 30% more programs than in other months. We do less programming in August (a breather from Summer). We also hold a Winter Reading Program from Jan-Feb, once again ramping up the programs. We take a breather in March.
