Current funding for the Gi21 program ended on September 30, 2008 and the information found in the program modules is up-to-date as of December 31, 2008. To facilitate use of the modules from now till the future continuation of the program, new documents can be posted from each module and sub-module main pages and the community discussions are open. However the main module pages and documents will not be updated. If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Clark.
Weather and Climate are affected by the natural surroundings and in turn affect the natural surroundings. The science of weather and climate investigates the processes (both internal to the Earth, external such as sunlight, and human activities) that affect weather and climate change. A variety of U.S. federal government agencies support research and provide scientific and technical information related to weather and climate.

Key Resources
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) - The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) "is the world's largest active archive of weather data. NCDC produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests from all over the world. Online access is free to all .gov, .edu, .mil, k12 and other selected domains while many of the publications from the NCDC site are free for all users. NCDC's Free Access page (http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/about/ncdchelp.html#FREE) provides information about their access policies." http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/ncdc.html
WINDandSEA: The Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences Internet Guide - This guide was built by NOAA librarians to help those concerned with oceanic and atmospheric issues. The over 1,000 selected links to science and policy sites organized by topic and alphabetically within topic. Many of these links are outside the NOAA website. http://www.lib.noaa.gov/docs/wind/windandsea.html
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) - Research - "The National Center for Atmospheric Research's (NCAR) activities as an integrator, innovator, and community builder are contributing to the development of a predictive Earth system science that can help sustain Earth’s habitability, improve environmental quality, safeguard human health, reduce the impacts of natural disasters, and increase economic productivity." NCAR's research website links to areas of research - climate, meteorology/weather, societal impacts, pollution & air chemistry, whole earth system, sun & space weather. http://www.ncar.ucar.edu/research/
Climate Information and Services - The Office of the Federal Coordinator for Meteorology (OFCM) mission is to coordinate all federal meteorological activites and provides information by ensuring "the effective use of federal meteorological resources by leading the systematic coordination of operational weather requirements and services, and supporting research, among the federal agencies." http://www.climateservices.gov/
USGS Climate Change Science - "USGS Global Change Research activities strive to achieve a whole-system understanding of the interrelationships among earth surface processes, ecological systems, and human activities. Activities of the program focus on documenting, analyzing, and modeling the character of past and present environments and the geological, biological, hydrological, and geochemical processes involved in environmental change so that future environmental changes and impacts can be anticipated." The website includes links to research activities, data set availability, and fact sheets. http://geochange.er.usgs.gov/
Climate Change - "EPA's Climate Change Site offers comprehensive information on the issue of climate change in a way that is accessible and meaningful to all parts of society – communities, individuals, business, states and localities, and governments." http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/index.html
Science Accelerator - "Science Accelerator is a portal searching searches vast scientific and technical resources, including R&D results, project descriptions, accomplishments, and more, via resources made available by OSTI. This database was developed by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) within the Department of Energy (DOE) and is available as a free public service." http://www.scienceaccelerator.gov/
Energy Citations Database - The Energy Citations Database (ECD) "provides free access to over 2.3 million science research citations from 1948 through the present, with continued growth through regular updates. There are over 150,000 electronic documents, primarily from 1994 forward, available via the database. ECD includes scientific and technical research results in disciplines of interest to DOE such as chemistry, physics, materials, environmental science, geology, engineering, mathematics, climatology, oceanography, computer science and related disciplines. It includes bibliographic citations to report literature, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and patents." http://www.osti.gov/energycitations/
DOE Information Bridge - "The DOE Information Bridge provides free public access to full-text documents and bibliographic citations of Department of Energy (DOE) research report literature. Documents are primarily from 1994 forward and were produced by DOE, the DOE contractor community, and/or DOE grantees. Legacy documents are added as they become available in electronic format. The subject areas included are physics, chemistry, materials, biology, environmental sciences, energy technologies, engineering, computer and information science, renewable energy, and other topics of interest related to DOE's mission." http://www.osti.gov/bridge/
DOE Data Explorer (DDE) - DDE contains scientific research data, such as computer simulations, numeric data files, figures and plots, interactive maps, multimedia, and scientific images - generated in the course of DOE-sponsored research in various science disciplines. http://www.osti.gov/dataexplorer/
National Technical Information Service (NTIS) - NTIS is an agency responsible for collecting for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related since the 1950s. The NTIS database provides citation information for over 3 million publications from 1964 to the present. http://www.ntis.gov/search/index.aspx/
Science.gov - Search engine providing single search access to over 50 million pages of government science and reseach results. Many results are available in full text. Site is maintained by the Science.gov Alliance, a group of STI government agencies. http://science.gov
Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) - Provides centralized access to all of Department of Defense's scientific and technical information on DoD's multidisciplinary research, development, engineering, and studies programs. Some reports available in full text. http://www.dtic.mil/
