Current funding for the Gi21 program ended on September 30, 2008 and the information found in the program modules is up-to-date as of December 31, 2008.  To facilitate use of the modules from now till the future continuation of the program, new documents can be posted from each module and sub-module main pages and the community discussions are open.  However the main module pages and documents will not be updated.  If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Clark.


Transportation, whether by land, air or water, is the movement of goods and people from one place to another and is important to national economies.  U.S. federal government agencies provide the bulk of transportation research and safety.

  • TRIS (Transportation Research Information Service) Online - "TRIS Online is a public-domain, web-based version of the Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS) bibliographic database. The TRIS Online database contains over half a million records of published transportation research including technical reports, books, conference proceedings and journal articles, including over 20,000 available in full text. The time span covers literature from the 1960s to the present, with some coverage of prior years. Highway Research Board publications are covered back to 1923. TRIS coverage includes the disciplines of planning, finance, design and construction, materials, environmental issues, safety and human factors and operations for the modes of highways, transit, railroads, maritime and aviation.   • National Transportation Safety Board - Publications - "National Transportation Safety Board Publications website provides access to formal NTSB reports from the 1990s forward." The reports are groups by topics amd include general interest reports, aviation, highway, marine, pipeline, hazardous materials, railroad, and revisions & reconsiderations.   • National Technical Information Service (NTIS)- NTIS is an agency responsible for collecting for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related since the 1950s. The NTIS database provides citation information for over 3 million publications from 1964 to the present. http://www.ntis.gov/search/index.aspx/
  • Science.gov - Search engine providing single search access to over 50 million pages of government science and reseach results. Many results are available in full text. Site is maintained by the Science.gov Alliance, a group of STI government agencies. http://science.gov
  • Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) - Provides centralized access to all of Department of Defense's scientific and technical information on DoD's multidisciplinary research, development, engineering, and studies programs. Some reports available in full text. http://www.dtic.mil/
