Communication technology, including the theory, technology, design, and equipment related to the processing and transfer of information, has traditionally been of great importance to governments especially when relating to security and defense.  From radio and telecommunications to multimedia and communication satellites, the federal government is involved in the research and propagation of communication technology.  The primary regulator of communications in the United States is the Federal Communications Commission which regulates all types of communications industries.
