Current funding for the Gi21 program ended on September 30, 2008 and the information found in the program modules is up-to-date as of December 31, 2008.  To facilitate use of the modules from now till the future continuation of the program, new documents can be posted from each module and sub-module main pages and the community discussions are open.  However the main module pages and documents will not be updated.  If you have any questions, please contact Kirsten Clark.

National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY)

The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities is a good place to start for information on special education. The NICHCY webpage is a cooperative effort between the Academy for Educational Development and the Office of Special Education Programs of the U.S. Department of Education.

Resources include:

  • Publications: basic information for parents, students, and educators.
  • State Resources: a directory of disability-related resources by state
  • A-Z topics: web resource guides for teachers with educational materials and links to related agencies.
  • NICHCY Research Center (http://research.nichcy.org/): includes a "research-to-practice" database of articles and studies on which practices and interventions work best for children with disabilities.
  • Zigawhat?: a page designed for young people with disabilities and their peers
  • En EspaƱol: the same resources are available in Spanish (http://www.nichcy.org/spanish.htm)

National Rehabilitation Information Center

  • Research using NARIC databases (http://www.naric.com/research/default.cfm): three NARIC databases - REHABDATA, a collection of articles and abstracts related to disability and rehabilitation research; NIDDR Project Database, data on projects funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation; and the NARIC Knowledgebase, a collection of resources for "information and referral" (agencies and organizations, as well as journal articles)
