National Park Service (NPS)
Part of the Department of the Interior, the NPS's main mission is to manage the country's national parks, a netork of 400 natural, cultural, and recreational sites. In addition, the Park Service helps communities preserve and enhance local heritage and recreational opportunities, conserve rivers and streams, and develop trails and greenways.

United States Geological Survey (USGS)
The mission of the USGS is to serve the United States "by providing reliable scientific information to describe and understand the Earth; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water, biological, energy, and mineral resources; and enhance and protect our quality of life."

Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
The BLM manages and conserves resources on 258 million surface acres and 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate, more than 40 percent of all land managed by the Federal government. Most of this land is in the Western United States and includes management of energy & minerals, timber, recreation, wild horse & burro herds, fish & wildlife habitat, wilderness areas, and archaeological, paleontological, and historical sites.

United States Forest Service
An agency of the US Department of Agriculture, the Forest Service manages public land in national forests and grasslands, over 193 million acres of land, as well as research all aspects of forestry and rangeland management.

National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)
NASS conducts surveys and prepares reports covering every aspect of US agriculture including economic, labor, demographics, and environmental issues. Their best known report is the Census of Agriculture conducted every five years.

Natural Resources Conservation Service
Originally called the Soil Conservation Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Services partnerships with private land owners and managers to provide leadership in conserving soil, water, and other natural resources.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
The mission of the USDA is to "provide leadership on food, agriculture, natural resources, and related issues based on sound public policy, the best available science, and efficient management."
