Census Bureau Resources The U.S. Census Bureau provides basic Hispanic and Latino demographic details through the Current Population Survey (http://www.census.gov/cps/), a monthly household survey. The most current table is Hispanic Population in the United States: 2004. Such characteristics covered include:
and some regional numbers. There are several other sources detailing the Hispanic population characteristics. The Census Bureau compiles these sources
on their Hispanic Population of the United States page (http://www.census.gov/population/www/socdemo/hispanic.html).
Many times information is needed for a smaller geographic region. American Factfinder (http://factfinder.census.gov/) is the best source for creating statistical tables based on specific areas (state, county, city, metropolitan area, census
block, zip code) and specific characteristics (over 100 to choose from). The sources of these statistics are the 2000 Census and the American Community Survey .
Within this Module The Hispanic Census Data Using American Factfinder Guide walks users step-by-step on how to find general population and housing characteristics. Also available is the case study Finding Detailed Census Data Information which focuses on determining Spanish speakers within a specific geographical area.
