Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics "The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics brings together data from more than 100 sources about many aspects of criminal
justice in the United States." These data are displayed in over 600 tables and are organized into six topical sections that
include criminal justice characteristics, public opinion, crime and victims, arrests and seizures, courts, sentencing and
prosecution, and parole, jails, prisons, and death penalty.
"The UCR Program is a voluntary city, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement program that provides a nationwide
view of crime based on the submission of statistics by nearly 17,000 law enforcement agencies throughout the country." UCR
annual publications include Crime in the United States, Hate Crime Statistics, and Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted.
The Compendium of Federal Justice Statistics "presents national-level statistics describing all aspects of case processing
in the Federal criminal justice system, including arrests by Federal law enforcement agencies, investigations and prosecutions
by U.S. attorneys, pretrial release and detention, adjudication in the U.S. district courts, sentencing, appeal of convictions
and/or sentences imposed, and corrections, for the given 12-month period."
The source provides convenient access to web pages for each of the facilities operated by the Bureau of Prisons. Each facility's
web page includes the facility's security level, the facility's visiting hours, judicial districts, contact information, and
more. Specific facilities can be located using the Facility Locator tool or by viewing the Maps of Facilities.
"This Sourcebook contains descriptive statistics on the application of the federal sentencing guidelines and provides selected
district, circuit, and national sentencing data. Each volume covers the given fiscal year. The Sourcebook together with the
Annual Report constitutes the annual report referenced in 28 U.S.C. § 997, as well as the analysis, recommendations, and accounting
to Congress referenced in 28 U.S.C. § 994(w)(3)."
Statistical Abstract of the United States "The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics
on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States." A convenient volume for statistical reference,
the Abstract also serves as a guide to more information both in print and on the web.
"This factbook, developed under BJS grants, provides narrative descriptions of the criminal justice systems of 45 countries
around the world. The original 42 descriptions were completed in 1993. The latest 5 entries including two updated country
profiles were prepared in 2002."
