Overview

"Now It's Your Turn: Gi21 Hits the Road" was an open forum session presented by Kirsten Clark, University of Minnesota; Jennie Gerke, University of Colorado; and Debra S. Van Tassel, University of Colorado at the Spring 2008 Federal Depository Library Conference in Kansas City, Missouri on April 2, 2008.

The session included a brief overview of the status of the Government Information in the 21st Century (Gi21) IMLS grant project and possibilities for future grant projects.  Following the presentation, over 30 attendees were split into small groups by regional geography.  Current trainers in Gi21 project, including Chris Brown, University of Denver; McKinley Sielaff, Colorado College; Louise Treff-Gangler, Auraria Library;  Lisa Nickum, Colorado School of Mines; Peggy Jobe and Jennie Gerke, University of Colorado; as well as GODORT Education Committee Chair, Jennie Burroughs, served as moderators for the small groups.

Discussion among the groups included answers to the following questions:

  • How does your library/institution currently partner with other states/libraries in your area?
  • How could your libraries/librarians benefit from participating in a Gi21-like project?
  • What strengths could your institutions/librarians bring to such a project?

  • Do you have areas of specialized content or populations that would add to the online component?
  • What barriers do you see to participating in such a project?
  • Are there FDLP Regional librarians in your geographic area who are committed to participating in a future grant project?
  • Are there FDLP Selective librarians in your geographic area who are committed to participating in a future grant project?
